static noise

Postby ishi maki » Sun Jul 05, 2009 5:20 pm

I have a Custom Reverb Sig V2, at an idle I get an anoying crackling sound that increases when I turn up the gain. The noise increases if I use the by pass. I have tried swaping the pre amp tubes but the noise persists. I bought this amp for the clean sounds however the background noise is discouraging. Can I get any help out there please.

It does sound like a tube issue. Make sure that your using tubes that are "quiet." V1 and V4 are critical tube positions. Try using Tungsol's or Chinese tubes. If the problem persists, let us know.

Well I finally got some new chinese 12AX7's threw them the amp but still got that anoying static noise. I have tried some mesa tubes as well, same noise. Any other ideas for this problem? I can not even use the amp in this condition. Help please!

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with my Jet. Tried swapping out new valves (Tungsol, Harma, NOS philips) still the "static" sounds persist.

As there seems no resolution to the original post, so I thought I would raise the topic again.

Any help would be much appreciated.

All the best,

Hi,

I have the same problem too, the sound is very high when you increase the gain. My amp is the CRS V2 #219 and I need to fix the problem because I have some concerts in July. Now I'm rehearsing with a Marshall JCM Slash Signature, but it's not the same.

Please we need some help

In both of these cases, the issue was caused by bad tubes. Always start by replacing the preamp tubes, then check the power tubes and re-bias the amp after replacing. If the noise persists beyond that, email service@two-rock.com.

Thanks!

Hi!!

The problem has been fixed. It wasn't a problem from the tubes or the reverb tank, it came from a bad soldiering in the power supply.

I'll collect the amplifier this Friday :D and I'll buy a flight case to keep it. ;)

Thanks for the support and to the Organigrama Guitar Amp Tech, Francis.

Thanks gunsmoker,
I have not been using my amp at all. Fired it up, same noise.
I will be taking it to my local amp tech with your tip about the power supply connections.
I will post a reply when I get it back.
Signed pretty frustrated.
